Benefit calculation and its amount

The pension amount is mostly affected by two facts: length of the pension insurance period after the deceased person and the amount of his/her income attained in the decisive period. If the deceased person receives an old-age or disability pension, there is the so-called overlapping of benefits. The fact that benefits overlap does not mean the at the pension will add up. In such a case, the law provides that the percentage assessment of the pension received by the widow/widower and the widow/widower’s pension already assessed, being 50% of the deceased person's pension, are compared. Then 50% of the lower of the percentage assessment is paid, the higher remains unchanged. There is only one entitlement to the basic assessment.

Also the so-called periods treated as periods of insurance, such as childcare periods, etc., are included in the insurance period for the purposes of the pension calculation.

If a bereaved person does not receive any old-age pension or disability pension, the amount of the percentage assessment is 50% of the percentage assessment of pension, which a deceased person was receiving (or would be receiving) as at the date of death.

The exact calculation of the pension amount is made by CSSA only in the proceedings on the entitlement to the pension.
