Calculation of sickness insurance benefits for self-employed persons

The sickness insurance benefits are calculated based on the daily assessment basis, which is calculated as the sum of the monthly assessment bases in the relevant period divided by the number of calendar days of the relevant period.

Excluded days are included in the relevant period, this will reduce the number of calendar days of the relevant period. Calendar days in those calendar months in which the self-employed person does not participate in sickness insurance are excluded.

The decisive period is usually 12 calendar months before the calendar month in which the social event occurred. The calculation of sickness insurance benefits for self-employed persons is carried out in the same way as when calculating benefits for employees.
