Payment of benefit
A widow’s/widower’s pension is usually paid for one year from the date of the death of the spouse/partner/registered partner.
At the end of this period, the payment of the survivor's pension shall continue only in clearly defined cases, i.e.:
- The survivor cares for a dependent child or for a child, or for their own parent or the parent of the deceased spouse/partner/registered partner (father-in-law or mother-in-law), who is dependent on their assistance at dependency level II, III, or IV;
- Is disabled at the third degree himself/herself;
- Has reached the statutory age, which is four years younger than the retirement age of a man born on the same date, or the retirement age, if lower.
The widow/widower receives the pension as long as he/she meets the specified conditions.
